ABSTRACT
In this study disposal alternatives of stabilized sludge from sludge treatment units of Kayseri Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant were investigated. Solid content of stabilized sludge were between 16.5-22.0 % and daily amount of produced sludge varied between 220 and 330 m3. Four different sludge disposal alternatives were evaluated in detail: the first alternative was to investigate potential applicability of treatment sludge to land improvement. The second alternative was using the sludge as a secondary combustion waste in a cement production factory. As a third option it was thought to landfill the sludge with domestic solid wastes. As a final option the application of the sludge to the fallowed land was evaluated. The application priorities of these alternatives were determined. When heavy metal concentration, organic matter and nutrient content of the land to be used for sludge application were considered. It was found that the use of sludge mixed with manure by 50 % in improving and increasing yield of meadow and pasture lands was the most suitable option.
