Water Management and Climate Risk 'Dialogue on Water and Climate'
Holger Hoff
Dialogue on Water and Climate, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Telegrafenberg, Germany
ABSTRACT
Climate poses a number of risks to sustainable water resources management. Climate impacts on water resources can seriously exacerbate those of other anthropogenic drivers, such as economic and population growth, changing lifestyles and water uses, engineering etc. Even without climate change, current climate variability poses risks to water management.
The Dialogue on Water and Climate is bridging the gap between water management and climate science, in order to improve the capacity to cope with the impacts of increasing climate variability and climate change.
The dialogue with water industry (through IWA) addresses the central question if water managers are in the position to take climate – current variability and future changes – into account in operations and strategic planning.
