The dawn of a new desalination era: Japan plans for a megaton per day

The Japanese Mega-ton project is aiming to develop the world’s first megaton per day desalination plant, with Toray Industries heavily involved in the research and development of low energy cutting-edge membrane technology. Lis Stedman spoke with the project’s senior scientific director, Masaru Kurihara, about the scale and scope of the Mega-ton project and how this reflects a worldwide trend towards increased use of desalination.
