Break-up of Former Yugoslavia left the Balkans a divided region. Keith Hayward looks at how the Sava river basin is providing a focus for cooperation for the countries that emerged from the conflicts there.

Review highlights New Zealand’s compliance deficit New Zealand’s annual review of the microbiological and chemical quality of drinking water for 2003, recently released by its Ministry of Health, reveals that 71% of water supplies complied with the E. coli standard, with 73% complying with treatment plant protozoan requirements. The results mean that around 1.1 million New Zealanders were supplied with drinking water during 2003 that failed to comply with the country’s DWS2000 standards.
